Qualification

European Registration Scheme (E.R.S) Certificate in central heating design.

Attendance

1 evening per week - 6pm to 9pm

Duration

36 weeks

Description of the Course

The course duration is one evening a week (6.00 pm to 9.00 pm) over 36 weeks during the normal college term times. At the end of the course there is a written assessment with an 80% pass mark. To be eligible to take the assessment leaners are advised that 80% attendance is required.

Successful completion will give the following ACoP modules: -

  • ACoP 1 Safety Legislation & Basic Safety
  • ACoP 2 Combustion and its control
  • ACoP 3 Flues & Ventilation
  • ACoP 4 Pressure & Flow
  • ACoP 5 Domestic Pipe work Installation
  • ACoP 6 Electricity and its control
  • ACoP 7 Control Systems
  • ACoP 8 Design, Heat Loss and Comfort Conditions
  • ACoP 14 Fault Diagnosis, Service and Maintenance

Course content

Over the 36 weeks you will learn about and how to design both wet and dry central heating systems and methods of control

To help those people who may only need to top up their knowledge in certain areas the course is separated into three separate distinct areas of learning.

Weeks 1 to 12
Wet & dry heating systems, materials, heat and heat transfer, heat emitters including under floor heating and heat requirements (heat loss calculations).

Weeks 12 to 24
Pipe sizing, Controls, Oil, Gas, Solid Fuel and alternative fuels/energy.

Weeks 24 to 36
Combustion, Combustion efficiency, Circulating pumps, Domestic hot water, water treatment, commissioning, operating costs, Building Regulations, British Standards and Codes of Practice. Revision and written assessment.


Assessment

A written assessment will take place on the evening of week 36.

Please bring 2 passport size photographs with you.

Who is the course for?

This course is mainly aimed at plumbers, gas fitters but is open to anyone who is involved in the design, installation and/or maintenance of central heating systems.
