Level 1 Diploma in Media and Art (Vocational Studies)

The Level 1 Diploma in Media, Art & Design course is ideal for School Leavers who want to pursue a career in the media or design industries.

You will have the opportunity to gain experience working in a variety of areas such as drawing, 2D and 3D design skills, graphic design, animation, photography, video production and postproduction.

You will be introduced to the basic principles of art and design, with a strong focus on drawing, painting, printmaking and surface decoration experimentation and developing your creative thinking skills. This course will also include artist/designer research and development of your skills in responding to ideas visually.

You will have the opportunity to explore a range of career opportunities in the Creative Media industry and related specialist sectors. The course will introduce you to the production skills, methods and knowledge that are required in the Creative Media Production industry. You will develop a range of skills and techniques, understanding, personal qualities and attitudes essential for the next stage of your education.

Previous students who have successfully completed the Level 1 Diploma have progressed on to Level 2 and Level 3 courses and continued to University, apprenticeships or employment. Course content will cover the following subject areas

  • Entry Requirements


    We will invite you to a Meet the Tutor event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

    You will provide a copy of your last school report and / or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other. This is to ensure we can support you to be able to achieve well on the course.

    3 x GCSE's at any grade including Maths and English or previous vocational qualification.

  • Course Content


    You will be taught through lessons and practical workshops. Teaching of concepts and theories will be delivered in our Mac and PC suites, with practical lessons in our animation and TV/Photography studio spaces.

  • Progression Next Steps


    You could progress to the Level 2 UAL qualification in Creative Media Production Technology or the Level 2 UAL qualification Art & Design here at Carshalton College, before specialising at Level 3.
