Four days per week (two days in College and two days in placement) normally between 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. on college days. However, placement days often start at 8.30 a.m and may end after 5.00pm

Description of the course

This is a full time, Level 2 course which provides basic training for those who wish to work with children between the ages of 0 to 16 years. You will have the opportunity to work under supervision, in schools, nurseries and playgroups. It forms the preparation for the Level 3 Diploma in children's core learning and development and satisfactory completion will allow you access onto the Diploma. You will undertake part of your course at college and part in training placements in the community so that you will gain experience with all age groups.

There are a variety of units to be studied, some relate to working with and caring for young children, others are about aspects of children's development and education. You will also learn about working with families and carers, with other professionals and the factors that affect children and their families. You will need a mature attitude and a great deal of commitment to complete this course but you should also find your studies rewarding and interesting

An average of a Grade D in three or more GCSEs including English or you will have successfully completed a Level 1 programme achieving at least a Merit and a Basic/Key/Functional skill at least a Level 1 for English. You may also be asked to demonstrate your commitment and skills in an interview. If you don't have the required entry qualifications there will be an opportunity for you to demonstrate your abilities to undertake the course.

The course is suited to school leavers interested in working with children or students who have successfully completed Level 1 Diploma in Childcare or Health and Social Care

Additional requirements

Students should be aware that in order to attend mandatory work placements they will be required to complete a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check.
