Description of the course

Central YMCA Qualifications (CYQ) is the UK leading awarding body for health, fitness and well being qualifications.

This course covers exercise and fitness knowledge, and how to structure a programme, as well as how to instruct clients safely and effectively. 

It is an ideal starting point for those wishing to work as a fitness instructor in the Health and Leisure Industry

The demand for fitness instructors and personal trainers is increasing rapidly. It is a career that offers the chance to work flexibly to suit your needs.

What can I do after the course?

On course completion you will gain the Certificate in Fitness Instructing -Gym-Based Exercise(CYQ Level 2), the entry point to other fitness qualifications such as the Personal Trainer.

The Units You Will Cover Are:

  • Health, Safety and Welfare in a Fitness Environment
  • Anatomy and Physiology for Exercise
  • Principles of Exercise Fitness and Health
  • Know How to Support Clients Who Take Part in Exercise and Physical Activity
  • Planning Gym-Based Exercise
  • Instructing Gym-Based Exercise

 

During the course you will learn to:

  • Identify the major bones, muscles and muscle actions of the body
  • Explain the workings of the body's cardiovascular and energy systems
  • Identify the components and principles of fitness
  • Relate the Health & Safety at Work Act to the gym environment
  • Identify good customer care and strategies for the adoption and maintenance of physical activity
  • Plan, teach and evaluate a gym programme
  • Demonstrate good personal technique and alignment on a range of CV equipment, fixed resistance machines and free weights

There will be some self study with the course but the majority will be taught by your tutor.

There are no formal entry requirements other than an interest in health and fitness, and a commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle

Kit

Appropriate sports kit must be worn for all practical elements of the course.

The course will be run twice throughout the year:

September to December and January to March

The courses will run on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6pm to 9pm covering both the Theory and Practical parts of the course.
You will also be required to attend two Saturdays and your practical assessment will also be on a Saturday

If a reassessment for practical or theory is needed, an additional cost will be incurred

This is a Full cost courset there are no full-cost fees for 16-18 year olds
