Launch of the National Careers Service

The National Careers Service launched across England on the 5th April 2012, providing free and impartial careers advice service for adults and young people (aged 13 and over). The national launch was celebrated in London and across the country through a series of high profile events that shared the service with the general public, showing them how they can access the National Careers Service quickly and efficiently.

The new service will allow the public across England to access information, advice and guidance on all aspects of careers, skills and training. The service can be accessed online, over the phone or face-to-face (for adults) in the community. This gives those seeking advice about jobs or looking to access training, the resources to do so. The service will also support those looking for work and can even support individuals who are looking to
change careers.

The new user-friendly and interactive website hosts information on over 750 job profiles which provide essential information on what each involves and the skills needed, tips to support applications, such as help with CV drafting and interview advice, and a wide range of guidance to assist in accessing training and different career paths. The phone service gives people the chance to have a chat with a trained careers adviser and receive bespoke advice tailored to their needs and individual situation. There are also face-to-face appointments available for adults in the community, providing the opportunity for those with the most need to gain in-depth advice about their career and working life.
