A Level + Creative Business Studies Pathway (Performing Arts)

Are you interested in pursuing a career in the creative sector with a focus on entrepreneurship and enterprise? This exciting course brings together a range of practical performing arts skills with an understanding of the world of business. Students will study a Level 3 BTEC in Performing Arts and an A Level in Business. Your Performing Arts course will encourage you to develop a wide and marketable range of performance skills. The course combines major performance areas and emphasis is put on the development of high-level professional performance skills supported by relevant theory. This is a practical course that provides numerous opportunities for performance in our professional in-house theatre and further afield. For A Level Business, students will gain insight into the way businesses are run, from small scale start-ups to multinational organisations.

Creative thinking is necessary for business problem solving, and business intel is crucial for practicing creatives - this course combines them both!

  • Entry Requirements


    All A Levels require general criteria with a minimum of; 5 x GCSEs at C/4 or above, including a grade 6 in Mathematics and English Language.

  • Course Content


    Level 3 BTEC National Foundation Diploma in Performing Arts:

    All Performing Arts and Dance courses consist of practical sessions, lectures, workshops and performances covering a range of skills and knowledge and consist of core and specialist elements delivered by subject specialist staff. Foundation Diploma units studied include:

    Devising Theatre Acting Skills Voice & Singing Movement for Actors Performing to an Audience The Performing Arts Industry

    Performing Arts and Dance students benefit from access to three purpose-built dance studios with sprung floors and mirrors as well as additional acting studios for class/workshop activity and independent rehearsals. Students have the opportunities to be involved with a wide range of work experience and enrichment projects where their refined skills can be put to use in industry/vocational settings. There are opportunities for theatre visits/trips/workshops throughout the year and we invite professional practitioners into college to inspire and give industry advice. There is considerable emphasis on group work and collaboration, so all students are expected to be committed to the group and to the discipline of rehearsal and performance.

    AS Level in Business: Students will gain an understanding of how businesses are structured, what makes a business successful, how managers and leadership control decision making and the impact these decisions have on market performance, operational and financial performance.

    In year 2 students have the opportunity to complete the full Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Performing Arts a as well as the full A Level in Business.

  • Progression Next Steps


    The majority of students progress onto the 'top-up' year to complete a full Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Performing Arts and a full A Level in Business.

    After completing two years at Level 3 most students progress to universities where they study a wide variety of degrees.

    For those students not wishing to progress to university, comprehensive support is provided to help them find alternatives such as employment or apprenticeships.

    There are lots of opportunities available to you to progress across the South Thames Colleges Group and into the world beyond education.
