BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Business Studies

You will develop practical skills and a theoretical understanding of the world of business including areas such as banking, marketing, insurance and accounting. As well as learning about employment areas, you will develop the skills you need to build a successful career including teamwork, innovation and entrepreneurship.

This is a two-year course equivalent to two A Levels. It is designed for students who are only likely to achieve a grade 4 in either English Language or Maths.

  • Entry Requirements


    5 x GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English or Maths, or a Level 2 BTEC at Merit or above in a relevant subject. If you think you will achieve a grade 4 in both English and Maths, you should apply for the Extended Diploma in Business Studies.

    We will invite you to a Meet the Tutor event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for, and you will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

    You will also need to provide a copy of your last school report and/or a reference from an employer, and this will include your attendance. Applicants with attendance below 85% will need to discuss any evidence-based mitigating circumstances at their Meet the Tutor interview.

  • Course Content


    You will look in depth at Finance, Management, Marketing, Events Management and International Business.

    In the second semester each year, you have the opportunity to select modules of your choice, just like at university. These choices allow you to specialise in different areas of business. The options change each year, but are likely to include: Law, Customer Service, Accounting, Human Resources, Entrepreneurship, Recruitment and Digital Marketing.

    During the course you will develop your group work, IT and presentation skills. You will have a personal tutor who supports and guides you through the course. You will meet with your personal tutor for group meetings and for personal one to one meetings on a regular basis.

  • Progression Next Steps


    Most students continue to study Business Studies or a related course at university, or to a university course at Kingston College. We will also support you with an application to an Apprenticeship or into employment in supervisory positions.

    During your time with us you will have access to a dedicated team of careers and education advisors who will help you as you take the next steps towards achieving your goals.

  • Additional Information


    We arrange visits and invite guest speakers to provide insight from industry into the different units.

    You will be required to undertake 40 hours relevant work experience in the first year.

  • Assessment Details


    The course is assessed through 50% coursework and 50% modular exams. There are exams in Finance and Marketing in the first year and Management in the second year. Coursework will include written reports, presentations, role plays and time-limited exercises.
