This is a combined Esports & Business programme for those students wanting to learn both about the Esports and Business industries, both of which are currently demonstrating huge growth. This course has been designed to enable students to learn and develop the required skills and knowledge needed to progress to University or into employment in this exciting field. The Esports qualification is endorsed by the British Esports Association as being suitable for students wanting to work in this industry.

The one-year full-time course provides an in-depth study of the sector, supporting progression to a higher level and employment in key areas of the Esports and Business industry.

Students who do not have English/Maths GCSE at C/4 will have the opportunity to study English and Maths alongside their programme.

  • Entry Requirements


    We will invite you to a Meet the Tutor event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

    You will provide a copy of your last school report and / or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other this will include attendance. This is to ensure we can support to be able to achieve well on the course. Applicants with 85% or below attendance will have been deemed not to have met this criteria. All applicants are given an opportunity to discuss any evidence- based mitigating circumstances that may have affected the reference / school report.

    4 x GCSE's at C/4 or above, or a Level 2 Certificate / Extended Certificate or above, at Merit or above, in a relevant subject. Including English and maths GSCE at C/4 or above or Functional skills Level 2 in English and Maths.

  • Course Content


    The Level 3 Extended Certificate in Esports is made up of four different units all of which will be delivered and completed in the Academic Year. A variety of assessment methods will be used including practical work and case studies.

    Units covered may include: Introduction to Esports, Esports Skills, Strategies and Analysis, Enterprise and Entrepreneurship in the Esports Industry, Health, Wellbeing and Fitness for Esports Players. Students will also undertake a period of work placement.

    In Business classes you will look in depth at Finance, Human Resources and Marketing. During the course you will develop your professional skills via group work, IT and presentation skills. The units you will study include elements of Accounting, Marketing, Human Resource Management and Website Design.

    You will have a personal tutor who supports and guides you through the course. You will meet with your personal tutor for group meetings and for personal one to one meetings on a regular basis. The course will be predominantly coursework with two exam based units and you will be assessed in a variety of ways to develop your professional skills - for example: presentations, role plays and essays.

    You will also have the opportunity to undertake a period of work placement.

  • Progression Next Steps


    The majority of students progress onto year 2 of the (RQF) Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Business and the Level 3 Level 3 Diploma/Extended Diploma in Esports. Progression routes after completing year 2 may include the Level 4 HNC in Business or a degree in Business or Esports. In addition, we will prepare you for progressing to employment and/or starting your own Business/Esports business.

    There are lots of opportunities available to you to progress across the South Thames Colleges Group and into the world beyond education.

  • Additional Information


    A range of enrichment opportunities including visits and practical hands on, work-related experiences is available. Activities will include visits and case studies relating to real life businesses. Guest speakers are invited in to talk to students about future careers throughout the year.

    Information regarding specific course charges, equipment, kit and materials, day of attendance and enrolment date will be given at advice and guidance sessions. Early application is advisable as this course is popular.

    Students will be asked to provide their own headsets for the Esports elements of the programme.
