BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Sport Science (RQF) with BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Business (RQF)

This exciting level 3 BTEC combined course will prepare you to progress onto university to study Business and Sport Science based degrees or into the lucrative world of sport management, marketing, retail and enterprise. You will look in depth at topics such as marketing, enterprise, fitness, sport and wellbeing. As well as learning about employment areas, you will develop the skills you need to build a successful career including teamwork, resilience, innovation and entrepreneurship.

  • Entry Requirements


    We will invite you to a Meet the Tutor event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

    You will provide a copy of your last school report and / or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other this will include attendance. This is to ensure we can support to be able to achieve well on the course. Applicants with 85% or below attendance will have been deemed not to have met this criteria. All applicants are given an opportunity to discuss any evidence- based mitigating circumstances that may have affected the reference / school report.

    4 x GCSE's at C/4 or above, or a Level 2 Certificate / Extended Certificate or above, at Merit or above, in a relevant subject. Including English and maths GSCE at C/4 or above or Functional skills Level 2 in English and maths.

  • Course Content


    In Business classes you will look in depth at finance, human resources and marketing. During the course you will develop your professional skills via group work, IT and presentation skills. The units you will study include elements of accounting, marketing, human resource management and website design.

    In Sport classes you will study human science and learn how the body works. You will also develop the skills to plan and implement training/fitness programmes for athletes/clients to improve their performance or lifestyle. Units taught may be: Anatomy and Physiology (exam), Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being (coursework). During this aspect of the course you will complete practical and theory lectures working in groups and individually preparing you to understand the sports/fitness industry.

    You will have a personal tutor who supports and guides you through the course. You will meet with your personal tutor for group meetings and for personal one to one meetings on a regular basis. The course will be predominantly coursework with two exam based units and you will be assessed in a variety of ways to develop your professional skills - for example: presentations, role plays and essays.

    You will also have the opportunity to undertake a period of work placement.

  • Progression Next Steps


    The majority of students progress onto year 2 of the (RQF) Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Business and the Level 3 Extended Certificate in Sport (3 A-Level Equivalent). Progression routes after completing year 2 may include the Level 4 HNC in Sport and Exercise Science or Business. External Higher Education courses such as Business Management, Sports Business Management, Physical Education, Sports Science and Sports Management. In addition, we will prepare you for progressing to employment and/or starting your own business or perhaps an e-business.

  • Additional Information


    A range of enrichment opportunities including visits and practical hands on, work-related experiences is available. Activities will include visits and case studies relating to real life businesses. Sport students are invited to an overseas residential working on team building skills including numerous land and water based activities. Guest speakers are invited in to talk to students about future careers throughout the year.

    Information regarding specific course charges, equipment, kit and materials, day of attendance and enrolment date will be given at advice and guidance sessions. Early application is advisable as this course is popular.
