Paralegal Apprenticeship - Level 3

A Paralegal Apprentice provides legal support, including administrative tasks, carrying out research and drafting legal documents and forms.

Apprenticeships are flexible and are designed to offer a structured programme of learning to fit around the needs of the individual and the employer.

Learning takes place mainly during employment through the development of on the job skills, supported by your College tuition which will take place one day every other week. Both the on and off the job elements of the apprenticeship lead to nationally-recognised qualifications which are awarded by NALP.(National Association of Licenced Paralegals)

  • Entry Requirements


    Many employers will expect a high standard of literacy and numeracy e.g. GCSE grades A*-C-/9-4, A-levels, or be able to prove ability to work at this level, such as experience gained through employment or voluntary work. You must also be in suitable employment.

  • Course Content


    NALP Level 3 Certificate in Paralegal Practice. The Level 3 units studied:

    • Introduction to Law
    • Contract Law
    • Law of Tort
    • Legal Ethics
    • Conveyancing
    • Wills and Succession

    A portfolio of evidence from work will be prepared over the first 18 months of the course. This will include legal research outputs, correspondence such as letters and emails, case file documents and witness statements. There will also be a presentation and project to prepare and deliver.

    The following qualifications meet the requirements for the Paralegal Apprenticeship - NALP Level 3 Certificate in Paralegal Practice Completing this standard should also provide exemptions for the Solicitor Apprentice standard and the Legal Executive standard.

  • Course Structure


    The course is split into a number of phases: On-programme Training and development takes place during this part of the apprenticeship, with apprentices attending college one day a week plus assessment in the workplace. During this time, you will develop a portfolio. During their training, apprentices will develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours expected from a competent Paralegal. End Point Assessment (EPA) is the final stage that an apprentice goes through to complete their apprenticeship. The apprentice must show their learning to an independent end-point assessor and the overall grade available is distinction, pass or fail. The apprenticeship duration is 18 months. The apprentices are expected to attend college at least 1 day at fortnight to gain the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for their EPA.

    Apprentices will undertake a series of externally assessed exams to complete the NALP Level 3 Certificate in Paralegal Practice and have to undertake an end point assessment which covers; Two Timed Assessments Each Timed Assessment is 90 minutes in length An Interview based on a Portfolio
