Over the two years of the policing course learners cover a range of topics to prepare them for all entry routes in to the police service. The course content and extra-curricular activities provide learners with the fundamental underpinning knowledge and soft skills needed for entry to the police services.

The course has been developed with consideration to the requirements of modern-day policing by subject experts and industry experienced staff members. As part of the course we work closely with the local police force providing an industry specific learning experience

Combining the subjects of Policing, Psychology and Criminology provides a wide variety of progression careers including Human resources, recruitment, management consultancy, and corporate law

On the Policing, Psychology and Criminology Pathway students cover this diverse subject matter by taking classes in three different departments of the college, where they can benefit from the coaching of specialist, industry lecturers in Policing, Psychology and Criminology

  • Entry Requirements


    We will invite you to a Meet the Teacher event where you will receive information, advice and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

    4 x GCSE's at Grade 4 or above including English and/or mathematics and a subject in humanities. You are further required to provide a copy of your last school report showing excellent attendance to ensure we can support you to be able to achieve well on the course.

    Prepare for a Career in the Police Service
    Criminology
Developing Leadership Skills
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
Developing Physical Fitness for the Police Services
UK Legal Systems and the Police Service
Dealing with Emergency Incidents
Crime Scene Investigation

    These units are an excellent combination of practical and theory-based units with policing specific elements as well a vital transferable skill.

  • Progression Next Steps


    The Extended Diploma Policing, it is aimed at learners who want to progress into the police services or on to university. Entry into police can now be gained via apprenticeships, directly to the constabulary and the post-graduate Police Now programme. There is a good balance between coursework and practical work so this course will test your knowledge and skills. You will also develop critical skills such as leadership, teamwork, enterprise and entrepreneurship. You will look at drone technology used in search and rescue operations.

    Most students who progress to university tend to study a vast range of subjects. Recent graduates have secured places in Criminology Paramedic Science Forensic Science Policing and Nursing at Russell Group universities (Exeter, Manchester, Durham, Nottingham, Southampton, Bristol, Cardiff & Kings).
