A Level + Science Pathway

When you study on this course, you will be developing your skills of analysis, problem-solving, creativity, critical thinking and collaboration - all core qualities that top universities and employers' value for success in the STEM sector. We offer a curriculum that is enriched by input from local employers and will enable you to find out about clear career pathways into a wide range of science-based jobs.

As part of this course you will study BTEC Diploma in Applied Science AND one A Level (Maths or English Language & Literature)

The majority of our students progress to universities where they study a wide variety of degrees including Biomedical Science, Pharmaceutical Science and Biological Life Sciences.

For those students not wishing to progress to university, comprehensive support is provided to help them find alternatives such as employment or Apprenticeships. In the past, students have progressed onto employment as laboratory technicians.

  • Entry Requirements


    5 x GCSE's at C/4 or above, including a grade 7 in Mathematics and grade 4/C in English Language.

  • Course Content


    Mathematics In the first year you will cover topics in Pure Maths, Statistics and Mechanics. In Pure Maths you will study a wide range of topics including differentiation and trigonometry. In Statistics you will learn about sampling and probability and hypothesis testing, and in Mechanics you will learn about kinematics (displacement, velocity and acceleration). In the second year you will develop your mathematical problem-solving skills and algebraic skills further and you will study the Pure Maths topics in greater depth. In Statistics you will learn about probability distributions and in Mechanics you will learn about moments and friction.

    The majority of our students progress to universities where they study a wide variety of degrees.

    For those students not wishing to progress to university, comprehensive support is provided to help them find alternatives such as employment or apprenticeships.

    There are lots of opportunities available to you to progress across the South Thames Colleges Group and into the world beyond education.
