Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning (NCFE)

This qualification provides learners with an in-depth understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school and college environments. The course curriculum is from 5 years and covers all aspects of specialist support, including:

  • planning; delivering and reviewing assessment strategies to support learning alongside the teacher; bilingual support; special needs support; and personal development and reflective practice. This qualification aims
  • to focus on the study of the supporting teaching and learning
  • offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge
  • provide opportunities to acquire a number of practical and technical skills. The objectives of this qualification is to:
  • provide learners with in depth understanding of the knowledge and skills needed to work in a school or college environment
  • provide a stepping stone into further learning within the sector
  • Entry Requirements

    DBS (police) check is required prior to any placement offer.

    5 x GCSE's at 4 or above. Your GCSE profile must include English and Maths at 4 or above. Successful completion of an industry specific course for example Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner Learners will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement to demonstrate competence in both knowledge and skills. Learners must be fit to complete a minimum of 250 hours placement whilst undertaking this qualification.

    • Understand how to support bilingual learners
    • Understand how to support learning of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities
    • Support children and young people during transitions
    • Support the role of play, leisure and extra-curricular activities for children and young people
  • Progression Next Steps


    The course withholds UCAS points.

    Upon successful achievement, you can progress onto:

    • Level 4 HNC Social and Community Work
    • Early Years Foundation Degree (Kingston University)
    • FD Childhood Studies with SEN

    Learners can also progress to employment and specialist support roles:

    • Teaching Assistant
    • Learning Support
    • Specialist support roles in primary, secondary and/or specialist provisions
