Carshalton College will be joining the Sutton’s Celebrating Sport Awards 2012 on Thursday 12 July organised by London Borough of Sutton.
Sutton Council is staging this annual awards ceremony with local partners and businesses to introduce these awards for the local community recognising and rewarding people who contribute to the local sporting scene. These include achievements of local sports people, groups, schools and clubs in Sutton over the last 12 months.
It is an opportunity for the community to nominate and vote for your local sporting hero or heroine and give them the recognition they deserve.
The awards will be taking place at the Secombe Theatre in Sutton from 6.30pm with seven performance awards and six service and provision awards. Carshalton College is sponsoring the Junior Sportsperson of the Year.
The awards will include local young people, adults, teams and clubs who have either performed to a high standard or helped others benefit from sport, as well as acknowledging and celebrating the past and potential Olympians and Paralympians.
Carshalton College has had a busy year with Olympic activities leading up to the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games. As part of the Get Set Network to inspire students to get involved, the College is involved with the Paralympic Festival taking place at Sutton Arena Leisure Centre on Wednesday 20 June, received NUS Silver Accreditation for its activities, took part in an interview with paralympian athlete David Weir MBE and nominated students for awards.
Sebastian Coe, chairman of LOCOG, said “When London won the right to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games, we made a clear promise to use the power of the 2012 Games to inspire young people. I am pleased to welcome Carshalton College in to the Get Set Network for their exciting work around the Olympic Values of friendship, excellence and respect and the Paralympic Values of inspiration, courage, determination and equality.”
