We can offer a range of courses in Motor Vehicle and levels including the Diploma and Extended Diploma in Maintenance and Repair Level 2 & 3.
Alicia Lawrence, 22, enrolled on a two year Motor Vehicle Apprenticeship in September 2010. For 3 days a week, Alicia works at Autotech a car servicing garage in Balham and studies at College 1 day a week.
Alicia is the only female at Autotech but said the team couldn’t have been more welcoming and supportive. “They have all been so supportive and patient, believing in me at times when I have doubted myself. It is a great environment to learn in, very relaxed, with the only pressure being the pressure I put on myself to achieve but my manager continuously encourages me to carry on learning. Customers are always quite surprised to meet a female mechanic and impressed by my knowledge. I have even been spotted in the local supermarket and referred to as the lady mechanic.”
Alicia hopes to progress onto the IMI Advanced Apprenticeship in Motor Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Level 3 at Carshalton College.
Rachel Tamplin, 16, completed her Entry Level course and received an award and certificate for her attendance, enthusiasm and dedication to the course at the 2011 End of Year Awards. She returned in September 2011 to study the Level 1 course. Her ambition is to join the Navy as a Mechanical Engineer and is studying to gain the necessary knowledge and experience. Rachel said
“I choose to study at Carshalton College because of the qualifications on offer and reputation for Motor Vehicle courses. It sounded like a good College and I really enjoy the course, taking cars apart and getting my hands dirty. For any women looking at mechanics as a career I would tell them to go for it, you don’t know until you try something and this has turned out to be a great choice.”
Learners progression to work in a variety of roles in Garages, Management, Dealerships, Design, Production &Testing roles and Maintenance depots roles.
