From Monday 21 May to Thursday 24 May Carshalton College has been joining the country’s celebrations in the build up to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympic Games before the end of term.
Activities were organised by the Student Support Centre and the Student Union. In addition to the College being decorated with bunting, flags and table cloths, there was
- Free Breakfast for all learners who attend College before 8.30am
- Tutors nominated one learner from each group to be entered into a draw to win Gold, Silver and Bronze Olympic themed prizes
- Students nominated a tutor from each group to be entered into a draw to win Gold , Silver and Bronze Olympic themed prizes
The main event took place on Thursday 24 May from 11.00am in the College’s Courses Diner with a free lunch for students and staff. There were a variety of games and activities with staff and the student union members in fancy dress as Pearly Kings and Queens and the King and Queen of Hearts.
Competitions and raffles including a British quiz, Tombola, Tin Can Alley and the chance to have your photo taken with a life size cardboard cut out of the Queen took place plus a flower stall with baskets produced by the students.
From all the activities the Student Union raised a fantastic £256.53 for Cancer Research.
