Hairdressing employer talk to students

On Monday 24 September and Tuesday 25 September one of the Carshalton College Hairdressing employers, Marcus Martinez will be coming to the College to talk to the learners about the hairdressing industry.

Marcus recently won a competition to work alongside top hair stylist Nicki Clark. Marcus had to complete a number of difficult tasks without knowing he was taking part at the time to win. The competition has been televised in a programme called ‘Secret Interview’ and this will be shown on Wednesday 12 September at 8.00pm on channel 5.

Jan Child, Curriculum Manager of Hairdressing at Carshalton College said ‘this is a great opportunity for our students to hear from a successful hairdresser the realities of working in the hairdressing industry and the obstacles and challenges faced by the industry and individuals working within it. We hope our students will be able to have a number of their questions answered by Marcus and that the success Marcus has had will encourage our students to fulfil their potential.’

Carshalton College has a great reputation for their Hairdressing courses. The courses have been running for over 50 years since the College opened, making it one of the few original vocational courses on offer. There is a front of house Renaissance salon that is open to the public, which is a realistic working environment and a training salon where learning takes place in a creative atmosphere. The staff are all dedicated practitioners who continue to work in industry alongside their teaching role, keeping updated of new trends, innovative ideas and practices.
