The Goodwood Revival taking place from 14 -16 September 2012 is a hugely popular historic motor race meeting and the only event of its kind to be staged entirely in the nostalgic time capsule of the 1940s, 50s and 60s.
The Revival relives the days of Goodwood Motor Circuit, which ranked alongside Silverstone as Britain’s leading racing venue throughout its active years between 1948 and 1966. For three days every September, this historic circuit stages a race meeting for the kind of cars and motorcycles that would have competed at Goodwood during 1948-1966.
This year Carshalton College hairdressing tutor Fiona Chaffey and selected students, from the Level 2 Apprenticeships, Level 2 students progressing onto Level 3 in Hairdressing and also past students have been invited to attend.
Fiona Chaffey says ‘I have worked at Goodwood Revival doing hair for the Goodwood Actors Guild, Presenters and celebrities for the past 3 years, and I have wanted to get the students involved in this fantastic experience since.
The stepping back in time experience, with the low flying spitfires every 15 minutes or so, it really does make you feel as if you are in war time.
The students will be working backstage, creating vintage looks on around 150 actors over 3 days. This work experience is not only invaluable it will enable current students to gain assessments, that will go towards their qualification but it will also teach all the students new skills, that will further their prospect for employment.’
Carshalton College has a great reputation for their Hairdressing courses. The courses have been running for over 50 years since the College opened, making it one of the few original vocational courses on offer. There is a front of house Renaissance salon that is open to the public, which is a realistic working environment and a training salon where learning takes place in a creative atmosphere. The staffs are all dedicated practitioners who continue to work in industry alongside their teaching role, keeping updated of new trends, innovative ideas and practices.
