Student’s Surprise Meeting with The Queen
On Friday 14 May 2010, Public Service students from Carshalton College, were lucky enough to meet with Her Majesty The Queen. The students were taking part in a team building exercise at the Royal Windsor Horse Show. The Army Recruitment Team invited the students’ just days before, but during completion of an Army assault course, The Queen made a surprise visit to the students.
The 30 or so students were asked to greet and talk with The Queen about their involvement in the royal event.
Ian Widdowfield, Public Services Tutor explains “Participation in the Royal Windsor Horse Show really brings everything the students have learnt in the past year, come to life. We have a good relationship with the Army Recruitment Team and these type of events help our students make informed career choices.”
“We didn’t expect to meet The Queen though. My students were truly awe struck at meeting her, very polite as usual and I don’t think they could believe their own eyes. It’s something that they will never forget”
Students from level 2 and 3 BTEC Diploma in Public Services were brought together for the Army style fitness activities in leadership and team building. Public Service College courses give learners the opportunity to develop skills necessary for career progression within the armed forces, emergency services, (police, fire, ambulance), security and prison services.
