Styling Awards

Carshalton College would like to congratulate their hairdressing students after achieving a third place in the UK National Hairdressing Competition.

Held on Monday 28 June at Hertford Regional College, 10 colleges took part in the competition. The 17 students, aged between 16 and 26 years, from the NVQ Hairdressing Level 2 and Level 3 courses were given briefs and had to create ‘Red Carpet’ and ‘Innovative’ styles and cuts in an hour.

Judges included ambassadors from the Hairdressing Council who were there to check criteria including the coverage of hair pieces and the right length was cut in each style.

Georgina Millington, aged 23, from the Level 3 course was awarded third place for her style. In addition to being presented with a certificate, the award will give Georgina recognition for her work and feature in the trade magazine ‘Hairdresser’.

Fiona Chaffey, tutor from the NVQ Courses accompanied the students to the competition and said “It is a fantastic experience for the students to take part in this type of competition. It is the first time the College has entered and we are really proud of all the students. They produced tremendous work under pressure, acted professionally and were perfect ambassadors for the College.

The competition provides an insight into a different area of the hairdressing world and highlights more areas students can branch into in addition to working in salons. There is also the recognition and opportunity to add the experience to their CV."
