Attendance

You will normally attend 16 hours per week for three days

Description of the Course

You will study 11 Public Services units that will prepare you for work in the Public Service industries.You may also choose to progress onto the Level 2 Public Services course.  Alongside these units you will study for BTEC Level 1 Certificate in Personal and Social Development and Junior Sports Leaders Awards.

The units you will study are:
  • Personal Skills for Public Services
  • Public Service Careers
  • Public Service Incidents
  • Improving Health and Fitness for Entry into the Uniformed Public Service
  • Managing your Health at Work
  • Map Reading Using Ordnance Survey Maps
  • Introduction to Expedition Skills
  • Practical Teamwork in the Public Service
  • Developing Personal Skills for Ledership
  • Planning and Participating in an Event
  • Forensic Detection

 

  • L1 Certificate in Personal and Social Development
  • Level 1 qualifications in Functional Maths/English and ICT
  • Junior Sport Leaders Award

Assessment

Students are required to complete a portfolio (file) containing evidence of assignments, practical performance, presentations, group exercises and discussions.

Who is the course for?

This course is desgined for young people who want a good grounding in the work and job opportunities of the Public Services and the associated skills needed to progress into Public Service employment.  The course will also help leaners develop their English, Maths and ICT skills and gain a Level 1 qualification in their area of interest.

Entry requirements

A minimum of Grade E for 2 or more GCSEs (English essential) or you will have sucessfully completed a Level 1 programme to merit grade.  You may also be asked to demonstrate your commitment and skills in an interview.

What can I do after this course?

After sucessful completion of the course, learners will be able to apply for a Level 2 course, subject to interview and grades achieved, or go on to work in the public services industry. If you want information on level 2 courses, please contact Customer Services.
