BTEC L1 Foundation Learning Diploma in 'Caring for Children'

Attendance

3 days per week in college and 1day work placement. A minimum of 90% attendance is required.

Description of the Course

 

This is a full time, Level 1 course which provides an introduction to working with children between the ages of 0 to 8 years. You will undertake part of your course at Carshalton College and will also be given the opportunity to attend a one day work placement  within the community so that you will gain experience with pre school age children.

Foundation Learning is the new format for Entry Level and Level One programs, it is made up of  a BTEC Diploma in Caring for Children, a BTEC Award in Personal and Social Development, a BTEC Certificate in Work Skills and Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT.

Assessment

This course is now made up of credits values, each unit is assigned a different value, to gain a Diploma you are required to gain 37 credits (which are shown below). Each unit will be assessed through assignments, projects and practical activities.

Award = 7 credits, Certificate = 13 credits, Diploma = 37 credits


Who is the course for?

The course is suited to school leavers interested in working with children.

Entry requirements

An average of Grade E for 3 or more GCSEs or you will have successfully completed an Entry Level 3 programme/ FL Entry Programme with the full 37 credits. You may also be asked to demonstrate your commitment and skills in an interview. If you don’t have the required entry qualifications there will be an opportunity for you to demonstrate your abilities to undertake the course.

  • CACHE L2 Diploma in Child Care and Education (DCCE) 
  •  BTEC L2 Diploma Health & Social Care,
  • NVQ Level 2 in Childcare.

Additional Requirements

Students should be aware that in order to attend mandatory work placememts they will be required to complete a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check.
