Level 3 Business Marketing Pathway

The Level 3 Combined Subject Pathway option BUSINESS AND MARKETING is designed for learners wanting to continue their education through applied learning, who aim to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment in a range of sectors.

The business and marketing pathway option consists of three learning aims:

  • Business
  • Marketing

The business and marketing pathway option is designed as a typical two-year study programme, the pathway caries UCAS points and is recognised by higher education providers as contributing to admission requirements to many courses. The business and marketing pathway option is equivalent to three (3) A-Levels.

  • Entry Requirements


    5 x GCSE's at Grade 4 or above including English and mathematics. You are further required to provide a copy of your last school report showing excellent attendance to ensure we can support you to be able to achieve well on the course.

  • Course Content


    The business and marketing pathway option is designed as a typical two-year study programme, the pathway caries UCAS points and is recognised by higher education providers as contributing to admission requirements to many courses. The business and marketing pathway option is equivalent to three (3) A-Levels.

    Business will prepare you for a career in business which can apply to any sector or industry. Business will introduce the purposes of different businesses, their structure, the effect of the external environment and how they need to by dynamic and innovative to survive. You will further gain skills relating to, and an understanding of, how a marketing campaign is developed. Business requires you to complete two mandatory units namely Exploring Business (internally assessed) and Developing a Marketing Campaign (externally assessed).

    Marketing is a dynamic field and central to the success of all types of organisation. In marketing, you will develop an understanding of the careers available in the marketing industry and of the skills, knowledge and behaviours to work in the industry. You will further explore marketing principles and apply them to a variety of contexts as well as develop and use customer communications to engage with customers. Marketing involves three mandatory units namely Careers in Marketing (internally assessed), Marketing Principles (externally assessed) and Customer Communications (internally assessed). The mandatory content allows you to develop a wide range of skills, supported by underpinning knowledge and provides the opportunities for you to relate these to the marketing industry.

  • Progression Next Steps


    You may progress to the second year of your chosen pathway or consider further training or study in related fields such as an apprenticeship or employment.

    There are many employment opportunities in the business field, including business advisor, business analyst, arbitrator, business development manager, chartered management accountant, corporate investment banker, data analyst, data scientist, forensic accountant, project manager and stockbroker to name a few.

    The marketing sector is wide and can include jobs in marketing management, social media marketing, market research, public relations, brand management, sales management, advertising, digital marketing, business development and events management.

  • Assessment Details


    You will collect credits throughout the two-year programme using a combination of coursework and exams. You will be assessed through a range of assessment types and styles including internally and externally assessed units (exams). You will have two opportunities to sit each exam series in January and in the summer term of each year.
