L3 Diploma in Hairdressing (Cutting and Styling Specialists)

This course gives you the knowledge and skills to work with a large variety of hair types and develops your awareness of the industry. It is essential you have some experience of hairdressing already and want to progress further with your hairdressing and barbering talents and get the techniques to work as a stylist.

We have plenty of professional suppliers coming to college to deliver bespoke training on latest products and equipment. This is boosted by employers and salon owners giving demonstrations and talks on making it in the sector. As well as work experience in our salon there can also be opportunities for experience in professional salons - previous students have even seen this lead to part-time work.

As well as internal competitions, there are also a number of local and national competitions that you'll get involved with. In the prestigious WorldSkills competitions we've put through plenty of our students and this is a great way to learn from your peers and to be exposed to new experiences. As a Level 3 student, you'll be mentoring and supervising Level 1 and Level 2 students so you'll have real experience of operating in a supervisory role.

  • Entry Requirements


    We will invite you to a 'Meet the Tutor' event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

    You will provide a copy of your last school report and / or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other this will include attendance. This is to ensure we can support to be able to achieve well on the course. Applicants with 85% or below attendance will have been deemed not to have met these criteria. All applicants are given an opportunity to discuss any evidence based mitigating circumstances that may have affected the reference / school report.

    You will have gained either English and/or maths at GCSE 4/C or above or L2 Functional skills English and/or maths, and a Level 2 qualification in Hairdressing at Merit level.

  • Course Content


    As well as daytime lessons you may need to come into College on other days and times for commercial salon activities. You must be working or volunteering in a salon environment for a minimum of two days a week already. Optional units include subjects like developing and maintaining effectiveness at work. Additional units include:

    You could progress into work at a salon in a supervisory capacity or onto a university-level course to improve your skills.

  • Course Structure


    Your course will be delivered ion site at Wandsworth Campus.

    You will be asked to sign a code of conduct on enrolment which depicts a number of salon rules and regulations which need to be followed. These rules are to keep everyone in the salon safe and a clean and hygienic work environment and are non-negotiable.

    The wearing of nail extensions, varnish and lash extensions is prohibited and nails must be clean and no longer than the end of your finger. Hair is to be warn up and out of the way, in Beauty this will be in a bun .

    Your attendance, punctuality and commitment to the course is constantly monitored so choose your course of study wisely and you will find the challenges enjoyable and welcome.

  • Assessment Details


    Continuous assessment by observation on paying clients, formal and informal online tests, written assignments and tests as well as building up a portfolio of your work.
